This is a story that has troubled me for some time. On one hand, the knee-jerk reaction is to think that no one should have to compromise their religious principles for their job, but that analysis can't and shouldn't end there. Yahoo is reporting that the organization in Minneapolis which is in charge of airport cabs has enacted a new discipline system for cabbies who refuse to transport passengers carrying alcohol: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070416/ap_on_re_us/muslim_cabbies_alcohol. Approximately 70% of those cabbies are Muslim. What I have never understood is how picking up a passenger who has alcoohol in any way violates Islam. No one is making these cabbies drink the stuff. The next question is, where would they go next? Would they start refusing to carry passengers who had pork products? What if a passenger identified him- or herself as Israeli?
As an aside, you can bet the bank on CAIR getting involved in this very shortly.............

What if a passenger is a holocaust survivor? I guess a cabbie can refuse service, since muslims are offended by the holocaust...
Welcome, Bill, and I hope that you check back in on the blog frequently!
Your point is my point! Where does it end?
