Apparently, the Surge in Iraq (you know, the one that Barack Obama STILL says he wouldn't have supported) has driven a lot of would-be terrorists out of Iraq, leaving them to (in some cases) return home or as is so often the unfortunate case, to seek out new battlegrounds. Those battlegrounds are the Arab states of North Africa, so I would think that in the next few years, we will see an increase in terrorism in and emanating out of countries such as Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, etc. Tracking the human vermin who are terrorists will be incredibly difficult, given the hostility of the regimes where the terrorists are now residing.

Libya's Moammar Khaddafy is back in the news again, explaining that Barack Obama's words of support for Israel at the recent AIPAC conference stem from a fear on Obama's part that the Mossad will assassinate him...........just like it took out JFK: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/991948.html.

There's something to be said for being consistent

Once again, an Arab state has blocked a U.N. Security Council resolution condemning the horrific Palestinian terrorist attack yesterday at the Yeshivah in Jerusalem: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jBPlt_Tm5R4AtqFpaRdXCXoYlJdgD8V8DGE80. Of course, it's not like the U.S. did so much to push for the resolution, and I'd be willing to bet that Condoleeza Rice was probably blaming Israel for the atrocity in private conversations.

Once again, the United Nations has demonstrated its utter uselessness in the face of evil. On the other hand, the Human Rights Commission did manage to find the time to once again condemn Israel: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gas24zdOxdQcBQRTEuKAHPpObsPgD8V84ELG0. You can be 100% certain that the HRC will have nothing to say about the terrorist attack on the Yeshivah.

Durban II approaches

There are conflicting reports on whether the United States will stay away from the Durban II "anti-racism" conference, as the noxious fumes of anti-Semitism and anti-Israeli sentiment have already begun to waft over U.N. as the planning for the conference continues: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23039186/. It's not a surprise, given the hatred that was spewed forth at the 2001 conference, and what else should we expect given the presence of Libya and Iran on the planning committee?

Given that the conference won't take place for another 18 months or so, there is plenty of time to decide, or to change decisions that are already made. However, what I think will ultimately happen is that if it is Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama in the White House, the United States will be there. If it is John McCain, Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee, probably not. Similarly, in Canada, where the current Conservative government has already stated that it will not attend, I predict a reversal if the Liberals regain power.

So now we have Vietnam and (more depressingly) Libya on the U.N. Security Council: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/16/AR2007101601996.html. Not having grown up in the U.S., I can't pretend to have the emotional reaction to seeing Vietnam on the Council, but I have a definite, negative reaction to seeing Libya get elected. Worse yet, and perhaps not surprisingly given the State Department's headlong rush to embrace Arab autocracies, the United States did nothing to oppose the Libyan candidacy.

I guess that the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 has now been forgotten, at least from an official standpoint.
