Open borders anarchy

I've always hated the very concept of "sanctuary cities". Essentially, what cities who proclaim themselves to be "sanctuary cities" are doing is saying, "We don't give a hoot what the law says, we're not complying with it. So, now we have a situation where cities all over the country are declaring that they will not comply with federal law, which can occasionally lead illegal immigrants killing people: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2008/07/16/cstillwell.DTL. It seems pretty elementary to me that if these people had been deported, they would not have been here to commit their criminal acts.

I think that that there is a pretty easy solution to the problem of "sanctuary cities". The Federal Government should simply cut off all federal funding to city. If that city wants to flout federal law, why should it benefit from federal funds?

More San Francisco "values"

The frontal assault against the military by the powers-that-be in San Francisco wasn't apparently enough, so now we have schoolboard officials in the city voting to bar those enrolled in the Junior ROTC ("JROTC") program from using their participating in JROTC to obtain physical education credits: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/06/27/BAJ411FPOE.DTL.

I've really had it with that left wing nuthouse. The people who run the city (and everyone who voted for them) obviously hate the United States. So, good bye. Leave. I'd be more than happy to see the city secede. It wouldn't be missed..............

Liberal Elitists

I'm an avid reader of Sports Illustrated, which I devour as soon as it arrives in my mailbox every Wednesday. Occasionally, the magazine will delve into politics, but it usually stays away from the subject, though sometimes it just can't help itself. Last week, it had a blurb about which Presidential candidate various athletes from different sports were supporting. That section elicited the following letter to the editor from one Andrew B. Williams of San Francisco:

"There are only two reasons people ever vote Republican: They are millionaires or they are naive. Professional athletes are both."

I just love the condescension which is dripping from every word in that letter. Williams did everything but say that Republican voters are stupid. Given that SI edits letters for space and content, he may very well have done so. Well, Mr. Williams, I don't consider myself naive, and I'm certainly no millionaire. What does that make me (go ahead, you KNOW that you want to call me stupid.)?

San Francisco Recap

As it turned out, my one post from the City by the Bay was my only post from the place. Work duties prevented me from seeing as much of the city as I wanted, but I was able to see enough to know that I would like to go back someday soon, hopefully with Mrs. BHG. Those who can afford to live there are fortunate indeed................

San Francisco Blogging, Part One

I arrived mid-afternoon, and was fortunate enough to find out upon arrival that my meeting today was canceled. So, I made the most of the limited time I had and took in the Fisherman's Wharf area, which I thought was very cool (aside from the two people walking behind me who were discussing how Fidel Castro was an "underrated leader", and how this country would have been better off if he were the president instead of President Bush). I then took a drive down Lombard Street, and all I can say is this; if you haven't seen this street live, you are definitely missing something. The view from my hotel room, which is in the Financial District, is amazing. I am looking over virtually the entire San Francisco Bay. I can see why those people who live here are so attached to the place, the politics notwithstanding. I have business meetings pretty much all of the next two days, and then fly back home on Thursday. However, somehow, someway, I am hoping to squeeze in a visit to Alcatraz. We'll see if that actually happens.

If San Francisco is the epicenter of leftist insanity in the United States, then Berkeley is the actual fault line. No place more exemplifies the deranged anti-American self-hating mentality of the angry left then the city that is home to Cal-Berkeley. The entire city has one (count 'em, ONE) Marines recruiting station, and that apparently is one too many for the Angry Left, which has issued a special parking permit to the fruitcakes who make up Code Pink. If that isn't an indication of just how unhinged the Angry Left is, I don't know what is.

I have never been to the City by the Bay, and would still like to visit sometime, but I have to ask how any sane human being could stand living there. I know that there are a few of you out there, because you have e-mailed or are members of the same listservs as me. Doesn't it drive you insane to live in that place?

I will admit, I have never been to San Francisco, though I have always wanted to go there. I have heard from both friends and family that it is truly one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and the pictures and films I have seen support that view.

That said, why does it seem like every crackpot and lunatic in North America seems to gravitate towards the place? Only in a city which screeches constantly about its "tolerance" could you have a story like this, where that supposed tolerance becomes a justification for anti-Semitism. It defies belief.
