And STILL we not only do nothing, we say nothing

I am convinced that just as our generation looks back at the Holocaust and asks, "How could they do nothing?", future generations will look back at the inaction of the world on the ongoing genocide in Sudan and say that our inaction and silence were and are criminal: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122065894281205691.html?mod=djemEditorialPage. Our political leaders, both Republican and Democratic, have failed us completely here. What the Sudanese government is being allowed to get away with is nothing short of mass murder, and it will be a permanent stain on human history that we allowed it to happen.

Nice sentiment, but she's not listening

It's (largely) Arab Muslims killing off (largely) Black Christians. Yet, this ongoing stain on humanity receives virtually no attention from the State Department or its head, Condoleeza Rice, focussed as they are on the REAL "genocide" in the world, Israeli's horrible abuse of the Palestinians (yes, I'm being sarcastic).

There are a couple of issues in play here--our fear of upsetting the Arab states who well us oil, and our equal fear of upsetting Sudan's patron, China, which owns the vast majority of national debt. Either way, our silence is criminal, and history will judge us very harshly for what we in the West have allowed to occur in Darfur.

It's about bloody time.........

The International Criminal Court is getting set to charge a current leader of a country of genocide, and in a shocker, it's ISN'T the leader of Israel. No, the ICC is rightfully getting set to charge Omar Hassan al-Bashir, the President of the Sudan, for his evil in the Darfur region: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/10/AR2008071003109.html. Needless to say, the U.N. isn't too happy about it, but that's not much of a surprise, is it?

A plea for help

One would think that the situation is hunky-dory now in Sudan, given the lack of media attention the ongoing genocide there has received. Of course, that's far from the case. What is going on in Darfur is a stain upon humanity. Future generations will look upon what we did--or more appropriately, what we DIDN'T do--and ask, "How could they allow this to happen?"

Israel, saviour of the.............Muslims?

You don't see Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Syria, Jordan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia, Senegal, Pakistan, etc., etc., doing that, do you? Yet, apart from this article in the Guardian of all places, this story has received absolutely no publicity. I guess that if it doesn't involve Israeli "atrocities" against the Palestinians, it's not worthy of discussion.............

More non-Muslims die in Darfur, World yawns

The ongoing genocide in Darfur is one that future generations will look upon with same amazement and horror that current ones do with respect to the Holocaust. However, we are living in a very different political climate than the one that existed after WWII. We are much more politically correct, much more "sensitive", and more ominously, much LESS inclined to "call it like we see it", especially if the offending party is (gasp!) adherents of the Religion of Peace (official motto: "Don't call us violent or we'll kill you").

Genocide? WHAT genocide?

I truly believe that future generations will look back on ours and ask, in reference to Darfur, "How did they let this happen?" We should all hang our heads in shame.............

China and Darfur

One of the great, unspoken truths about the ongoing genocide in Darfur is that it is taking place to a large degree because of the support that China is giving the rogue Sudanese regime, both from an economic as well as a military standpoint. I'm curious to see how this will play out, but I am not overly optimistic about how the world will react. The West in general seems far more concerned about dozens of Palestinian dead thand it does about tens of thousands of African Christian dead in Darfur.......................
