The dust has now settled after one of the most devastating terrorist attacks the world has seen since 9/11. Note to the BBC, Reuters, AP, etc.: It was NOT an attack by "militants", "gunmen", etc. These WAS a terrorist attack. 195 people dead (so far), with over 300 (again, so far) reported injured. Contrary to initial reports, the terrorists do not appear to have been targeting foreigners such as Americans, Britons and Israelis. If they victims from those countries, it was by and large happenstance, with the glaring and obvious exception of the Jewish Community Center, Nariman House.

So, what is the practical effect of this week's devastation? Well, the Muslim world has already determined who was "responsible" for what happened (I'll give all of you ONE clue--It's the only country in the Middle East mainly inhabited by Jews). The MSM reporting was full of mealy-mouthed, amoral pronouncements, and not much else. We learned that the Indian security forces were clearly not ready for prime time. Most of all, we learned once again how fragile life is, and how life can be ended by virtue of simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

God bless those who were killed or injured.

Iran so far away

I wish that I could. Iran is steaming towards becoming a nuclear-armed power, and nobody seems to be willing or able to do anything about it: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122298974853900315.html?mod=djemEditorialPage. Let's be perfectly clear, here. A nuclear-armed Iran is NOT the same thing as a nuclear-armed France, or a nuclear-armed Great Britain, or a nuclear-armed Russia, or a nuclear-armed China (or a nuclear-armed Israel). All of those countries are run by people who are if nothing else fairly pragmatic. They are not apocalyptic religious zealots like the Mullahs running Iran and their puppet, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The concept of nuclear deterrence is that one side doesn't want to attack the other because it will be attacked with nuclear weapons itself. That type of deterrence can't and won't work where the other side doesn't care if it dies.

So, we fiddle. And while we do, Iran pursues its nuclear goals. And, once it obtains them, it will be Israel (and maybe us as well) that burns.................

Ignoring a horror

Maybe it is a cultural problem and not a religious problem, as some insist. I honestly don't know. What I do know that is that so-called "honour killings" continue to be limited to the Islamic faith: http://www.meforum.org/article/1988. You do not see them occurring in Catholic, or Buddhist, or Protestant, or Taoist or Jewish groups. You simply don't.

So........why doesn't this issue receive more attention? Why is it ignored by the MSM? Is this still MORE political correctness run amok, as I suspect is the case?

The quiet surrender

The United Kingdom is surrendering to Islam, but it's like watching the death by a thousand cuts--There is no violent explosion, not spectacular victory. It's sad to watch a once-great bastion of freedom, democracy and tolerance to surrender this way, without even so much as a fight.

For the most part, this story has been ignored in North America (no surprise there, I know).

What I can't figure out is why any Jew would still want to live in Western Europe. Incidents like this are only increasing in frequency.

Another feminist failure

Let's make a couple of things perfectly clear. I am a supporter of feminism. I believe in equal pay for equal work. I believe that a woman should be able to do anything a man does, provided she is physically capable of doing so. However, I think that modern feminism has become so completely politicized that it no longer acts as an advocacy group for all women. Instead, it has become a movement which focuses exclusively on the rights of Liberal or left-leaning women and the causes they espouse. This is why you see not a single word out of groups like NOW when so-called "honour killings" take place--it would be politically incorrect to say anything negative about Islam. That is also why you see not a word from feminist leaders about the rights of women in countries such as Saudi Arabia or Iran, where the dangerous and delusional Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is moving against the few rights women in that country still have: http://www.nypost.com/seven/09062008/postopinion/opedcolumnists/ahmadinejads_new_enemy__women_127724.htm.

If feminism is to retain its legitimacy as a movement, it can't simply speak on behalf of some women. It has to speak for all women.

Is it just me, or are absurd stories like this one becoming more common? Who cares if someone lights candles on a birthday cake? Why in the world would that bother anyone?

More dishonour killings

I'll leave aside my disgust at feminist groups who seem to completely ignore these stories whenever they come out. I'll leave aside my fury at the Islamic-dominated U.N., which has not once issued any condemnations of this primitive and barbaric practice. I'll ignore the fact that anyone who claims to be civilized should be appalled by these stories, instead of the deafening silence from so-called western intellectuals.

Instead, I'll ask this one, simple question: How can any human being, civilized or not, western or not, Muslim or not, accept this behaviour?

A columnist in the London Times is more than a little peeved at the spinelessness of Western "elites" who fall all over themselves grovelling at the feet of Islamic supremacists who perceive any comment about their faith as being an attack on it: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/mick_hume/article4509698.ece. I completely agree with him, but unfortunately, I think that Europe is definitely too far gone in terms of its dhimmitude, and we aren't very far behind in this country. The spread of dishonour

I hate to say it, but this truly is an Islamic problem. What we are

I sent what is contained below to a friend in response to the story on how fear of Islamic reprisals has forced many publishers to quash books that dare to portray Islam in anything other than a glowing light:

The fact of the matter is that we are so afraid of "offending" ANYONE that we have turned into a society of timid fools who are afraid of their own shadows. No one is free to speak their mind anymore, particularly when it comes to anything to do with Islam. It's a one-way street, too. A book like this one is squelched, but artists who immerse statues or pictures of Christ in URINE are lauded. Publish a bunch of cartoons about Mohammed and you get condemned by the U.N. Publish a book accusing American Jews of dual loyalty (Walt & Mearsheimer's "The Israel Lobby") and you are hailed as being brave.

Here is my hypothesis: As a result of 9/11, Osama Bin Laden and the other Islamofascists achieved success beyond their wildest dreams. Not only did they kill thousands in this country, we have become a society of cowards and politically correct dhimmis, not even willing to call Islamic terrorism what it is. We now have courts in the U.S. treating terrorists as being the moral and legal equivalent of soldiers on the battlefield, with the connivance of left-leaning academic or legal organizations such as the ACLU.

Imposing silence

This climate of fear is not just caused by a belief that Muslims around the world will riot if they are "offended", though that is certainly a part of it. In a world where supposedly scholarly works are published accusing (some) Jews in the United States of dual loyalty, why is Islam off-limits?
