"No Go" Areas for non-Muslims in the U.K. and Islamic Exgtremism? It's all the fault of the United States!

An Anglican Bishop comments that there are areas in the United Kingdom which are becoming forbidden territory for non-Muslims, and as the last line of the article comments, a Muslim comments in response that, in short, whatever problems do exist are being caused by U.S. Middle Eastern policies.

So let me get this straight: If a Briton of Pakistani descent kills his daughter because she dresses too much like a Briton, that is because the U.S. has troops in Iraq and doesn't believe that all Israelis should be killed? Hmmm........

Okay, sounds reasonable to me!

A truly odious man

Fred Phelps (I won't dignify him by calling him "Reverend") and his collection of fellow demented wackos have disrupted yet another military funeral: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,305279,00.html.

Personally, I'd love to see one of the families go after Phelps and his gang and beat the living s--t out of them. Maybe then they'd finally get the idea that what they are doing is so beyond the pale that no free speech right should protect it.............

Ann Coulter

I haven't blogged about her previously, at least not that I can recall. So, let me lay my cards on the table and say that I am not a fan. It's not that I necessarily disagree with her points, because I generally don't, but in my mind, she is a bomb-thrower, no different on the right than the Ted Ralls and his ilk are on the left. I hate it when the debate is debased from either side, and I am especially uncomfortable when we on the right descend to the level of the George Soros-led crowd on the left. There's an old cliche which goes something along the lines of "Don't wrestle with a pig in the mud. You both get dirty and only the pig likes it". That's what it's like to me when Ann Coulter lobs one of her verbal grenades.

So, now Ms. Coulter has generated yet another controversy. Here latest involves an appearance on a CNBC show where she essentially said that Christians were perfected Jews. Rather than blather away about any more, I'll let you make the call as to whether her comments are offensive or not. Yom Kippur

No blogging on Yom Kippur (even I have my limits and lines which will not be crossed). I have made a promise that the computer will not be touched from the minute I leave for Kol Nidre services tonight until at some point after I break the fast tomorrow night. So, for those of you who also interact with me on this blog or on Facebook, you will somehow have to make do without me for 25 hours or so. It will be difficult, I know, but I am confident that you will all survive, difficult though it may be. ;-)

Jerry Falwell Dies

One of the seminal figures in American Evangelical Christianity, Jerry Falwell, has died: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18679412/. I have to admit, I have very mixed feelings about this. Falwell was a frequently intolerant person who only became flexible when it came to his own personal foibles. History will ultimately judge what kind of person he was, but I have a hunch that it may not be all that kind.
