Stifling free speech in the name of (what else) free speech

This is one of those stories that just makes me shake my head in dismay. Democrats, even though they haven't won anything yet (the 2008 election, after all, is still 13 months away), are already scheming to reinstitute the so-called "Fairness Doctrine": http://www.spectator.org/util/print.asp?art_id=12128.

In reality, this insidious doctrine has absolutely nothing to do with fairness, and everything to do with regulating the way people think and feel. Has anyone ever thought about why conservative talk radio is so popular, or why the left wing Air America couldn't even draw flies? It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that maybe, just maybe, people LIKE what they're hearing, could it?

This is something that bears watching. The Democrats are going to push hard on this issue, and if they capture the White House in '08, the re-imposition of the Fairness Doctrine will be very, very high on their agenda.

Thanks for posting on this, so, I guess we thinking folk will just have to insure that they don't get elected. ;-)
