Not just as a military power, but in terms of it standing in the United States: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/917817.html.
The facts are the facts. The United States is essentially Israel's only ally. Other countries may come and go as supporters of Israel, but especially since 1967, the U.S. has been the one consistent supporter of Israel, even under the Bush 41 Administration. It appears as though that is about to change. The anti-Israel forces have finally figured out that the way to defeat Israel is to simply impose a Palestinian state on it, along the 1967 borders. Never mind that Israel already gave up the Gaza Strip voluntarily, and the end result of that move has been a neverending series of rocket attacks on Israeli civilians. Never mind that forcing Israel to give up the entire West Bank and East Jerusalem (which would undoubtedly be a part of any such dictated peace agreement) would leave virtually all of Israel within the range of Palestinian rockets, including Tel Aviv.
We've seen the subtle shift in U.S. policy in the past couple of years. That shift will only get more pronounced after the 2008 Election, I fear................
