The "Boycott Israel" Express rolls happily along

I blogged last month about the Co-Op in the Bay Area which had decided to boycott Israeli products. Well, this movement is spreading, as a Co-Op in Detroit has just voted on the same proposal, with no decision announced as of today: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071007/NEWS05/710070589/1001. As the article notes, at the meeting where the vote took place, anti-Semitic slogans were used (and this surprises who?).

Just once, I'd love for these boycott advocates to be intellectually honest and admit that their real problem, for the most part, is with Jews. Why do I say that? Think about it. They aren't advocating boycotts of any other country in the world; not China, which has suppressed Tibet for 50+ years, not the brutal theocracy in Iran, which kills homosexuals, no other country at all. ONLY Israel. Well, if these people are true to their ideals, shouldn't they boycott EVERYTHING from Israel? Shouldn't they avoid all of the prescription drugs and technological advances that have come out of Israel? Microsoft Windows was developed in part in Israel, so I would think that the "Boycott Israel" crowd should all switch immediately to Apple computers. And, I'm guessing that the next time they have a sick relative who needs a medication which was developed in Israel, they will tell that person that they should refuse the medication, right?

Somehow, I doubt that any of these things will happen, because the "Boycott Israel" movement, just like the divestment movement, is intellectually dishonest, morally bankrupt and hypocritical.
