So much for my earlier, misguided optimism about new French President Nicolas Sarkozy's election and the possibility that this might improve, at the very least, Israeli-French relations. His candidate for the Foreign Minister's position, Hubert Vedrine, is a Socialist well known for maintaining an anti-Israeli bent: http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1178708593353&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull. In fact, Vedrine was an outspoken advocate of sanctions against Israel druing the Intifidah during a previous tour of duty in the post.
I guess that it's more of the "same old, same old" out of France........
