When Academics go to War

Thanks to Solomonia for this one: http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=20070521&s=diarist052107. I don't agree with everything Alan Dershowitz says or does. He is, however, a passionate advocate of his (and my) faith, and a tireless supporter of Israel. This article outlines his feud with fellow "academic" Norman Finkelstein (and I concede that I am demeaning Mr. Dershowitz by using the same appellation for him and Finkelstein).

Norman Finkelstein is like so many on the Far Left; he hates his country and his faith and has turned that hatred into a whole series of books wherein he argues that Jews have used the Holocaust to justify their own "Nazi-like" (his description, not mine) treatment of the Palestinians. He also claims that the Holocaust is overstated. I guess that when support for you comes from the likes of David Duke and Ernst Zundel (not to mention Noam Chomsky and Ward Churchill), that speaks volumes for who you are.

Depaul University's political science department voted to give this man tenure. Thankfully, the university president denied him tenure, which has caused a huge kerfuffle in the academic world. It's a sad comment on academia that this man has any defenders.
