Well, what a shocker this is: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/14/AR2007051400159.html. You could knock me over with a feather. My thanks to Solomonia for bringing up this story. First of all, let's remember where the Holocaust took place. And if I recall my hisory correctly, it's not like Europeans--no matter what their national origin--fell all over themselves to protect Jews from the depradations of the Nazis. Sure, there was a brief period of guilt after World War II, but since then there has been a steady stream of left-wing, anti-Semitic propaganda out of the European press, disguised as "anti-Zionist" or "anti-Israel" propaganda. As well, there has been an neverending flow of Muslims into Europe.
So, to recap: Europe has traditionally been riddled with anti-Semitism. The European Left, which pretty much dominates the media in that continent, has demonized Israel to an absurd degree. And, you have a growing, restive Muslim population. With that in mind, why would ANYONE be surprised at an increase in European anti-Semitism? Frankly, I'm surprised that it's not worse.
