No good deed goes unpunished

Four years ago, the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth were getting set to air their ads against Democratic Presidential nominee John F. Kerry. His Senate colleague, John McCain, also a Vietnam veteran, condemned the ads: Well, four years later McCain is himself a Presidential nominee, and how does Mr. Kerry repay McCain? By trashing him on Bob Schieffer's "Face the Nation":

I never had much respect for John Kerry, and the little I had is gone after this bitter and mean-spirited attack. Kerry doesn't have to agree with McCain. In fact, he doesn't even have to support him. But, to attack him this way is deplorable.
