Battlefield England, Part Six

Stephen Rose, one of the main instigators behind the proposed English academic boycott of Israel, writes in the reliably anti-Israel Independent on why he is advocating the boycott: http://comment.independent.co.uk/commentators/article2611732.ece. The readership of The Independent is of a like mind: http://comment.independent.co.uk/letters/article2611726.ece.

There are so many errors within his piece that it would take several posts to list them all, but suffice it to say that Rose and his ilk can never escape the fact that they are Israel-obsessed when there are far worse violators of human rights elsewhere in the world. Here is an excellent response to the boycott advocates: http://www.express.co.uk/ourcomments/view/8463/Leo+McKinstry. Even the ultra-left wing Guardian halfheartedly condemned the boycott decision: http://education.guardian.co.uk/higher/news/story/0,,2094247,00.html.

Boycotting the only functioning democracy in the region is about as senseless as any one can possibly be. By their action, they proved themselves to be not only anti-semetic, but absolutely dense when it comes to the reality of the situation on the ground. Good post and good links. Thanks BHG.

Thanks, George. England has truly become "Ground Zero" in the battle for Israel's legitimacy. So far, the war is NOT going well........
