Afghanistan

Well, doesn't this make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? Canadian anti-war groups opposed to any Canadian participation in the peacekeeping efforts in Afghanistan have started writing letters to individual soldiers "explaining" to them why they should refuse deployment to Afghanistan: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/montreal/story/2007/06/11/qc-protestorsvandoos.html.

Though the article doesn't say it, I suspect strongly that many of these people are motivated by a strong anti-American sentiment.

I don't wanna seem like a defeatist liberal but the war is going the wrong way. The Afghan constitution enshrines Sharia law and freedom of religion is therefore a joke. Remmeber that Christian convert from Islam, wanting to exectute him and all...
The mission has to be reassessed. We need to determine clearly our goals and how we will get there and the centrality of Afghanistan to the global War on Islam..

While I don't necessarily disagree with you, let's also keep in mind that the motivation of these anti-war activists (who are against ANY war fought by the West, not just this one) has nothing to do with Sharia, policies or the like. On the contary, it has everything to do with a hatred of all elements of Western Society in general and the United States in particular.

Lenin had a description for people like this, which was "Useful Idiots".
