2008 = 1994 in reverse?

In 1994, the Republicans enjoyed a watershed election, grabbing control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years and taking over the Senate as well. 2008 is shaping up to be the Democrats comeback (or as I like to call it, "Revenge of the Nerds"): http://www.philly.com/inquirer/columnists/jonathan_last/20070909_One_Last_Thing___Alas__GOP_seems_set_to_take_hit_in_Senate.html.

If Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Jonathan Last is right--and he tends to be fairly astute--Republicans could be looking at their most dismal election showing since the 1970s. Get ready for higher taxes, a rollback of security measures, the legal enforcement of Political Correctness, a (fairly) rapid pullout from Iraq, and the further decimation of the armed forces. Did I mention the higher taxes?

It will be interesting seeing how the Democrats will explain the setbacks that the US will suffer under them without their scapegoat of Bush. What are leftists, environmentalists, moonbats and jihad-sympathizers to do?

They'll find a way to blame it on President Bush and/or the Republicans. That's the Democrats' (and the left's) way: Blame the victim and others.

Maybe I'm naive or overly optimistic, but I think the Dems' continual playing to the far Left will catch up with them in the end. The Summer of Love couldn't last forever; neither can BDS. The anti-war protests are getting smaller and the pro-victory rallies are getting bigger.

Also, the Democrats' bastions - the establishment press and academia - are continuing to crumble in influence and credibility.

These are long-term, not short-term, trends; I don't know whether they'll tip the balance in the GOP's favor as early as 2008, but I am very sure that they indicate a better, stronger future for America and its friends.
