More insanity from our schools

No, they're banning lego: http://www.rethinkingschools.org/archive/21_02/lego212.shtml.

Apparently, kids competing over toys is a bad thing, and it goes against the left wing, touchy-feely attitude of our teachers, who want to raise a bunch of socialist clones.

In general, kids are smart enough, and have enough experiences outside school, to put this kind of training into perspective, especially as they get older and develop their own lives. That said, it's offensive that these adults used this situation and their own position of power and authority to shove their ideology down the throats of these kids. I'll bet it felt really good to them, as they note, exercising your power usually does. Ask yourself whether you'd really want to live in a world in which:

All structures are public structures. Everyone can use all the Lego structures. But only the builder or people who have her or his permission are allowed to change a structure.

Lego people can be saved only by a "team" of kids, not by individuals.

All structures will be standard sizes
